ACC COMMENCES MONITORING OF EMERGENCY CASH TRANSFER IN NORTHWEST REGION

 The North-West Regional office of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Friday 17th March 2023, commenced monitoring of the implementation of the Emergency Cash Transfer to extremely poor people and households in Kambia and Karene Districts. The Emergency Cash Transfer is Government of Sierra Leone Social Safety Net programme aimed at providing economic relief to female headed households, elderly headed households and persons with disabilities in the two districts. 

 

Addressing the validation and verification teams, the Regional Manager, Madam Fatu Florence Kamara pointed out the Commission's role and intervention in the process and underscored the significance of upholding integrity and transparency in the process. She noted that, ACC's involvement focuses on effective mechanisms for transparency, accountability and helps to address beneficiaries being wrongfully excluded as well as ensuring the programme serves the intended beneficiaries.

 

The Regional Head further stated that, the awareness raising, community support, grievance reporting among other things are the key factors to the successful implementation of the programme.  She commended the collaboration between the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) the ACC and urged the selection teams to be fair, transparent and maintain high ethical standards in the discharge of their duties. Manager Kamara reminded them of their role as public officers and by extension are covered by the AC Act of 2008 and as amended in 2019.

 

In a brief meeting with NaCSA's District Coordinator, Sahr Keili, ACC Manager Fatu Kamara expressed her appreciation for the commitment shown by all institutions involved in the implementation process. The District Coordinator also commended the ACC for its vigilance and swift intervention in addressing emerging challenges in the implementation process. 

 

The validation and verification teams comprised members from, NaCSA, Ministries of Social Welfare, Labour, and Youth Affairs and the Kambia District Council.
