The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) wishes to inform the general public that it has filed an indictment against MOHAMED KOROMA, a resident of No. 1 THORONKA LANE, MAKENI, BOMBALI DISTRICT, on one (1) count of Academic Malpractice, contrary to Section 128(3) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008, as amended by the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2019.
According to the particulars of offence, MOHAMED KOROMA was caught attempting to impersonate one KELFALA YUSUF KOROMA, a candidate in the November/December 2024 Private WASSCE, specifically during the Agricultural Science III paper, at the Saint Francis Secondary School (Center 004) in Makeni.
On 18th November 2024, the examination supervisor observed that the personal details on the candidate’s identity documents did not match the individual who presented himself to write the exam. Further verification using WAEC’s VeriCheck biometric system, facilitated by the Supervisor and Branch Controller of WAEC in Makeni, confirmed that the actual candidate, KELFALA YUSUF KOROMA, was absent.
Investigations revealed that this impersonation scheme was facilitated by one AMADU BECKHAM SESAY, who admitted to coordinating the malpractice. He confessed that KELFALA YUSUFKOROMA is his elder brother residing in Bendugu, and that he had collected his brother’s BRS ID card and coordinated with MOHAMED KOROMA at an internet cafe. He also confirmed that a payment of Le1,000 (One Thousand Leones) was made in advance out of a total agreed sum of Le2,000 (Two Thousand Leones).
The Commission wishes to reassure the general public of its unwavering commitment to curbing examination malpractice and other forms of corruption in Sierra Leone.
