As part of it's efforts to building sustainable partnership and coalition building, the Northwest Regional Office of the Anti-Corruption Commission facilitated a two day training session on the 14th and 15th September 2023 for newly elected councillors on anticorruption policies at the UNIDO YOuth Centre in Kambia District. The training focuses on anticorruption policies, practices and referral pathways.

In her presentation, the Regional Manager Madam Fatu Florence Kamara said corruption has been identified as major impediment to the growth and development of nations and may take place at any phase of a public or private sector

project  committed by any  corporate or individual participants in a project or public body. She informed participants that as public officers, the training seeks to provide practical information and deepens  understanding to foster a culture of ethics and compliance to Anti-Corruption policies thereby reinforcing a zero tolerance to corruption. As corruption is increasingly transnational in nature, she said, the ability of public officials to prevent and resist corruption demands need not to be overemphasized. 

Briefing participants on the role of he ACC, Public Education Officer Mohamed Thullah said the commission is  committed fostering sustainable partnership and collaboration with public and private sectors in the fight against graft and to take meaningful steps to educating and preventing occurrences of corruption. The training, he said, will increase participants knowledge on various on the fight against graft.

Earlier in his welcome statement to participants, the Director of ABC Development Ibrahim Sillah underscored the significance of the training particularly for the elected councillors who are poised to serving their various communities. He encouraged them to pay keen attention and to cascade messages knowledge gained to their constituents.

The training was divided into two sessions; presentations and group discussion. The first presentation was done by the regional Manager Fatu Florence Kamara on anticorruption policies, practices, investigation and offences’. The second presentation which was facilitated by the Public Education Officer Mohamed Thullah looked at ‘reporting mechanisms and referral pathways to the commission. The training was climaxed with a plenary session were participants discussed their role to the fight against corruption, partnership and areas of collaboration with the ACC.
