"THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION IS GOING TO BE FIERCER AND STRONGER IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS" ~ ACC COMMISSIONER

NEWS ITEM

The Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Francis Ben Kaifala Esq. has said that he will ensure that the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone will be fiercer and stronger in the next five years. The Commissioner was speaking on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at a Management Retreat held at The Place Resort, Tokeh, in the Western Rural District.

While welcoming Directors, Deputy Directors and Regional Managers of the Commission at the Retreat, the Commissioner likened the Management Team of the Commission to Generals in the Military. “There are no bad soldiers but there are bad Generals. It is the Generals that develop strategies for a war to be won. As Generals for the fight against corruption, we should plan well so that we do not fail the people of Sierra Leone and the people that we lead" the Commissioner said.

Mr. Kaifala said that the ACC is at the centre of governance activities in Sierra Leone and the Commission should ensure that the Government of His Excellency, Brig. (Rtd.) Dr Julius Maada Bio succeeds in ensuring a prosperous Sierra Leone.  He said that the Retreat is therefore meant for Management to develop a solid Strategy that will ensure that there is value for money and efficiency in the work of the Commission. “Our plan is to make massive improvement, far more than we have done in the last five years,” the Commissioner furthered.

The ACC Commissioner noted that ‘we are currently sitting at 110 in the Transparency International Index, so my aim for the next five years is for us to take the country to double digits in the Index.”

He therefore encouraged the Management Team to be innovative and open to new things that will make the fight against corruption better. “We have to plan ourselves very well and show Sierra Leone and the world that better is possible" he concluded.

The Lead Facilitator for the Retreat, Dr Modupeh Taylor-Pearce said his objective is to ensure that the ACC becomes far better than it is now as an institution. He said discipline leadership should be at the centre of the operations of the Commission.

During the three-day Retreat, which will be concluded on Saturday, 22nd July, 2023, all the Directors and Regional Managers of the various Departments and Regional Offices of the Commission will make presentations on new and innovative ways for the fight against corruption in the next five years.
