In observance of this year's Day of the African Child, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Friday, 16th June, 2023 engaged pupils and teachers of the Free Pentecostal Academy and Johanna Kuyvenhoven Model Secondary School in Port Loko, North-West Region.

Speaking on this year’s theme, ‘Education for Empowerment: Unlocking the Future’, Senior Public Education Officer, Junisa Sankoh, encouraged pupils to be diligent in their school work and avoid all forms of academic malpractices. He advised them to be punctual in school at all times. Mr. Sankoh admonished teachers to teach according to their timetables, a practice which he described as an effective way to completing their syllabi. Bribery, extortion and sex for grades, are all acts of corruption, he added.

Deputy Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Emily Kadiatu Gogra, in her statement at the Johanna Kuyvenhoven Model Secondary School, encouraged teachers of the school to handle and deal with pupils as though they were their siblings or children. She noted that the commemoration of the Day of the African Child was designed to bring to the fore the many challenges faced by African children, including poverty, lack of quality education, child labor, early marriage, among others.

Madam Gogra further urged public organizations and individuals to advance children's protection across the continent.  She said that her Ministry would continue to support the empowerment of young people through education.

The Engagement was climaxed with the handing over of ACC’s information, education and communication (IEC) materials to authorities of the two schools.
