ACC RE-ARRESTS FUGITIVE DAUDA KAMARA IN CONNECTION WITH NASSIT/SISIMI PROJECT INVESTIGATION

13th March 2019

PRESS RELEASE

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) wishes to inform the general public that it has on Wednesday 13th March 2019, re-arrested Dauda Kamara, Country Director, Sisimi Medical Foundation who had fled to the United Kingdom while undergoing investigation and was declared WANTED by the Commission.

The public may recall that sometime in July 2018, Mr. Kamara was invited for interrogation in relation to the NASSIT Sisimi project investigation at the Commission’s 3 Gloucester Street office Freetown, where he fled and disappeared and never showed up again for the interviews. Thereafter, the Commission declared him WANTED. He later surfaced in the United Kingdom where he had been living and failed to assist with the investigations. Mr. Kamara was very vital to the investigations as he was, together with Mr. Amara Kuyateh, the two signatories to the Account and he made several suspicious withdrawals on the account.

Whilst still a wanted person, Mr. Kamara surreptitiously returned to Sierra Leone sometime in December 2018 and remained in hiding in his father’s house at Juba, in Freetown.

Following reliable intelligence, the Commission mounted intense surveillance on the premises, which eventually led to his arrest this morning. Appropriate actions will be taken at the end of the investigations, including ensuring that Mr. Kamara is accountable in the NASSIT Sisimi fraud, and he endures exemplary punishment for fleeing justice.

The Commission will deal with anyone who decides to flee or subvert the cause of justice for the people of Sierra Leone, or a section thereof.
