ACC HOLDS INCEPTION MEETING WITH SIERRA LEONE PRODUCE MARKETING COMPANY AND THE PRODUCE MONITORING ON PERFORMAMNCE MANAGEMENT

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), has engaged the Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Company (SLPMC) and the Produce Monitoring Board Sierra Leone (PMBSL) in an inception meeting on Risk Assessment in their institutions. The engagement which was held on Wednesday 2nd October, 2024 at the ACC Conference Room, Integrity House, Tower Hill, Freetown, had heads and senior staff from the two institutions in attendance.

Making a statement, Deputy Commissioner ACC, Augustine Foday Ngobie whilst welcoming the two institutions, encouraged them to raptly listen and pay heed to the necessary actions proffered by the Commission which are quite essential and intended to improve their service delivery. He further noted that in discharging the sacred and herculean mandate of the ACC, the Commission relies on Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to complementing its efforts in addressing public sector corruption by promoting integrity, which will undoubtedly enhance better service delivery.

Director of Corruption Prevention, ACC, Rashid Turay, in disclosing the purpose of the engagement said that his Department is mandated to examine practices and procedures in MDAs, stating that where there are loopholes the Commission will proffer recommendations to improve service delivery. He said the Commission has done a comparative analysis of the various systems reviews in MDAs over the years, necessiting, the need for risk assessment to address these issues.

Head, Monitoring and Compliance Unit, ACC, Ibrahim Sorie Kamara-Kay, emphasized on the importance and timeliness of the meeting, emphasizing that it will serve to provide a comprehensive understanding of the operations of the two institutions. “This exercise will be hugely beneficial to your institution,” he added. He continued that the Commission has identified key indicators and structures that are deemed important in promoting integrity by identifying corruption risks and taking the necessary preventive measures.

Mr. Kamara-Kay requested that a focal person be assigned to the ACC during the period of monitoring so that the process will be consistent and will not impede their work during the period.

Suggestions and contributions were made from the Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Company (SLPMC), Fofi Baimba Jr. and the Executive Chairman of the Produce Monitoring Board (PMB) Dr. James Vibbi; as they registered their admiration for the exercise and pledged their appreciation and unflinching support for the exercise.
