The Manager of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Northern Regional Office has called on the newly appointed Resident Minister North, Ibrahim Jalloh - affectionately known as Jalomy-to support the fight against corruption. The request was made during a courtesy visit to the Minister on Monday, 10th February, 2025.
During the visit, Miss Navo congratulated the Minister on his appointment and provided an update on the ACC’s activities in the northern region of the country. She emphasized the Commission’s mandate to lead the fight against graft through collaboration with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure the effective delivery of public services.
‘We wish to maintain these engagements and would be more than glad to work with your office to promote transparency and accountability in state institutions within the region,” Miss Navo stated. She highlighted that one of the most effective strategies for combating unconscionable conduct in public bodies is fostering a strong coalition among state institutions to implement best practices.
Miss Navo further informed the Minister that coordination and collaboration to promote integrity in the public sector is a key focus of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2024-2028, which contains clear objectives and hands-on actions with assigned implementing institutions and timelines.
Responding, the Resident Minister thanked ACC for the visit and pledged his commitment to supporting the fight against corruption. “I’m looking forward to working with all MDAs. The ACC, in particular, is close to my heart, and I’m ready to support its cause at all times,” he assured.
While commending the Commission’s efforts to promote accountability and raise awareness on anti-graft measures, the Minister observed, “If people accept corruption as normal, national development efforts will be hampered. My office will always, therefore, support you in fighting corruption in the region.” The Minister called for continued engagement with the ACC, agreeing that inter-sectoral collaboration is crucial to reducing and controlling dishonesty in state bodies.
The Resident Prosecutor, the Prevention Officer, and the Senior Public Education Officer of the ACC’s regional office also made statements on the role of their respective units.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening anti-corruption efforts in the northern region, which comprises the districts of Bombali, Tonkolili, Koinadugu, and Falaba.
