The Regional Manager of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the North-West Region, Fatu Florence Kamara has told Local authorities and residents of TARGRIN Community in Lungi to resist and reject all forms of corruption syndicate for quality service delivery. She made this statement during a sensitization meeting held on the 18th April 2023, at the Local Court Barray in Rosint, Targrin.
Addressing residents and local authorities, the Regional Manager stated that the ACC continues to demonstrate firm commitment to the fight against graft and to ensure that public resources are adequately used to provide the needed social services for the citizenry. She stated that the prevalence of corruption in rural communities has far-reaching effects as low-income households are forced to pay small bribes to get health care and other public services which affect families' disposable income. Explaining the ill-effects of corruption to social wellbeing and livelihoods, Manager Kamara encouraged them to support the ACC and stand against all forms and nature of corruption demands. She highlighted several corrupt practices across various sectors including the local court administration, the school and health sectors, microfinance and other areas of concern of corruption vulnerabilities in communities.
Manager Kamara issued a stern warning to local authorities and residents to desist from corruption. Dilating on the various reporting mechanisms at the ACC, the Regional Head encouraged them to uphold whistle-blowing and demonstrate high level patriotism to combatting graft and bribery in their localities and encouraged local authorities to monitor Government and Donor implemented projects in their communities. Making a statement on the implementation of the Social Safety Net programme and the Emergency Cash Transfer, Madam Kamara said the Commission is committed to seeing funds meet their intended purposes.
The ACC’s Senior Public Education Officer, Samuel Junisa Sankoh, spoke on the role of the community in the fight against corruption and highlighted various methods of reporting corrupt practices to the ACC.
Earlier in his welcome statement, the Section Chief of Rosint Pa Alimamy Kargbo thanked the ACC officials for visiting the community and promised to cascade the message of integrity to other members of the community.
