ACC PRESENTS COMPLIANCE PROGRESS REPORT TO MDAs & LOCAL COUNCILS

NEWS ITEM

The Prevention Department of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has presented a Compliance Progress Report to nine (9) Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and the Freetown City Council. The MDAs include; Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Ministry of Works and Public Assets, Immigration Department, Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation, Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Sierra Leone Maritime Administration, Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security, and the Freetown City Council.

This presentation took place at the Commission’s 3 Gloucester Street head office in Freetown, on Friday 18th March, 2022.

Providing insights on the importance of the Commission’s Monitoring and Compliance exercise on Systems Review Recommendations, the Director of the Prevention Department, ACC, Rashid Turay, said that the Commission carries out systems review with the primary motive to correct systems anomalies that provide the enabling environment for corruption to thrive. He continued that it is the outcomes of the review that recommendations are proffered which institutions are bound to implement.

“The Anti-Corruption Act 2008 as amended in 2019 requires MDAs to comply with ACC instructions which form part of the recommendations. A monitoring exercise by the Commission will commence three months after the presentation of the recommendations to ascertain compliance,” says Ibrahim Sorie Kamara-Kay, Head of the Monitoring and Compliance Unit, ACC. Mr. Kamara-Kay commended the Ministry of Works and Public Assets, Sierra Leone Correctional Services and other MDAs that succeeded in making significant or full compliance with their systems review recommendations, and advised other MDAs to emulate them.

Presentations of the Compliance Progress reports to representatives from the various MDAs and the Freetown City Council by the Director of Prevention, climaxed the event.
