25th March, 2023
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) represented by the Directors of Prevention and Public Education and External Outreach, Rashid Barbar Turay, and Patrick Sandi respectively, have on Friday 24th March 2023, commenced monitoring the payment of the direct cash transfer to beneficiaries relating to Cohort II, exit payment (second tranche) of the the Social Safety Net (SSN) programme in the country.
The monitoring exercise started in Moyamba Town, Moyamba District, on Saturday 25th March, 2023, at the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) office, where the two Directors admonished staff of NaCSA, Rokel Commercial Bank (RCB) and ACC community monitors in what would be described as pre- deployment engagement.
The Director of Prevention ACC, Rashid Barbar Turay stated that, integrity was what the ACC wanted in the project, noting also, all parties to the payment should conduct themselves with credibility, sobriety, accountability and transparency.
Mr. Turay therefore urged ACC monitors to do as required and ensure that grievances are recorded when they need arises.
ACC's Director of Public Education and External Outreach, Patrick Sandi catalogued the significance of ACC involvement in the project, adding, it was for this reason that the project should be corrupt free, otherwise, ACC presence to instill transparency in the project would have been undermined.
Director Sandi advised all the critical players involved that, there should be not compromises, especially for that which is corruption. He appealed to his listeners to work patriotically and make Sierra Leone proud to the donors.
The ACC District Monitor Moyamba, Jonathan Bassie, also encouraged all to work as a team, ensuring that the payment process is fair, open and transparent.
Earlier, the District Coordinator Moyamba, NaCSA, Aminata Vandy in her statement informed all that there was justification for vigilance to ensure that the right person is paid the money, even though there is passion to assist our brethren. She encouraged RCB to ensure the funds are available especially for cases of backlogs payments.
Relevant contributions were made by staff of the RCB,
the Data Operator, ACC and other staff of NaCSA.
Questions, answers and clarifications spiced up the engagement.
Monitoring exercises will be carried out by Directors Turay and Sandi at different payment points in Moyamba, Bo, Bonthe, and Pujehun Districts.
The ongoing SSN cash transfer is the exit payment of Second Tranche, Cohort II.
