A team from the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in Kono on the 13th June 2025 paid a courtesy call onstaff of the Immigration office in Koidu, Kono district.The call was meant to reiterate the Commission’s vigorous anti-corruption stance and part of the newly-assigned director's quest to meet with public offices in the district.
The newly assigned Regional Director Michael Sesay said that holding customised meetings with public officers goes a long way to prevent corruption in the public sector.
Mr Sesay spoke on the asset declaration exercise and encouraged all those required by law todeclare their assets to always comply.Hemade mention of the integrity management committee as a very important tool in the fight against corruption and encouraged the Immigration staff to set upsuch a committee in their institution.
Also of importance is the setting up of a gift register, which the director said could help staff to disclose gifts received during the course of their work.He encourgaed them to always comply with anti-corruption policies at the workplace.Senior InvestigationsOfficer attached to the ACC’s Kono office, Dauda Kaikai, spoke on the essence of colloboration in a bid to strengthen the anti-corruption campaign.Investigations Officer, Mohamed Sajuma, also reiterated the essence of the gift register drawing instances where public officers were exonerated during investigation as a result of proactive disclosure of gifts. Public Education Officer Patricia J.Sannoh admonished staff of theImmigration office to always report incidences of corruption through the Commission’s toll-free lines of 8515 (all networks), 077-985985 or 077-986986.Theofficer-in-charge of the Immigration office in Kono Foday Sana Marrah expressed his thanks and appreciation to the ACC for the engagemnet. He however highlighted a series of challenges his office is facing and expressed desire for his head office to help them with mobility and increase the number of staff to help secure the border-crossing points.
