   3rd October2018

The Northern Region Office of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), in an outreach meeting on Friday 21st September 2018, sensitized residents of Makoth and its environs on the Pay No Bribe (PNB) campaign.

Addressing the community people at the Makoth Court Barray, Gbanti Chiefdom, ACC Public Education Officer Abdulai Saccoh applauded the efforts of the people for the large turnout in the meeting amidst their busy schedules.

Mr. Saccoh said the engagement was to shed light on reports made by members of the public through the PNB reporting platform.

He told the audience that due to continuous engagements the leaderships of the education, health, police, water, electricity and judiciary have taken concrete actions/steps geared towards reducing the spate of bribery in these sectors.

The Public Education Officer spoke on the adverse effects of bribery warning that it should not be accepted as a normal way of life. He said, public institutions were established to provide the needed services to the public and not to serve as extortion points.

Mr. Saccoh described bribery and petty corruption as some of the ills that continue to hinder the progress of rural communities. He therefore admonished the people not to offer anything of monetary value to a public officer for services that they are paid to provide. He called on them to embrace the PNB campaign, which he described as the nation's direction to combat bribery from the society.

In his statement, Public Education Officer Abdul K. Bangura explained the PNB campaign, describing it as an anonymous system that empowers citizens to report bribery incidences. Mr. Bangura took the people through the processes of making reports through the PNB reporting platforms- including the 515 toll free line-and urged them to make good use of the portal.
