The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) wishes to inform the general public that it has, today 15th November, 2024, presented to His Excellency, President Brigadier (Rtd.) Dr. Julius Maada Bio, its 2023 Annual Report.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at State House in Freetown, the ACC Commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., said the Commission’s multi-prong approach to the fight against corruption continued to yield the desired results for the country. In 2023, he said, Sierra Leone made tremendous progress in the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index, which ranked the country 108 out of 180 countries with a score of 35, which is above the Sub-Saharan average score. He also said, in 2023, the Commission transferred and moved into its ultra-modern edifice-Integrity House at Tower Hill, with the funds for its construction and furnishing provided entirely by the Government of Sierra Leone.
Responding to the presentation, the President acknowledged the excellent gains the country continues to make in controlling corruption. He said his Government will continue to give the required support to the fight against corruption in order to mitigate the threats posed by the scourge. He encouraged the Commissioner and his team to continue waging the war on corruption for the betterment of the people of Sierra Leone. “My Government will remain vigilant to ensure that the gains made in the fight against corruption are sustained”, said Dr. Julius Maada Bio.
The Deputy Commissioner, ACC, Augustine Foday Ngobie, in his welcome address, highlighted the remarkable works of the Commission in 2023, and stated also that, through the Grievance Redress regime, the Commission worked jointly with the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) for a successful implementation of the Productive Social Safety Net program, funded by the Government of Sierra Leone, World Bank and UNICEF.
The presentation of the Commission’s 2023 Annual Report is in compliance with Section 19(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008 as amended in 2019. The Report catalogues the activities of the Commission, the remarkable achievements made and the challenges faced in the fight against corruption in 2023.
