A team from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), led by the Director of the Public Education and Outreach Department, Abubakarr Turay, has concluded a four-day awareness-raising campaign on the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) component of the World Bank-supported Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project. The engagement ran from 29th April to 3rd May, 2025, across various beneficiary communities in the Southern Region of Sierra Leone.
The campaign aimed to educate beneficiaries on the importance of transparency, accountability, and grievance reporting in the PSSNYE project. The ACC team visited Guala in the Kayamba chiefdom, Moyamba district, Gobaru in the Panga Krim chiefdom, Pujehun district, Mattru town in the Bonthe district, and Koribondo town in the Bo district.
The team engaged beneficiaries and other stakeholders on the effective use of the GRM to address concerns and ensure the project's integrity.
During the sessions, Mr. Turay emphasized the ACC’s commitment to combating corruption and ensuring that the PSSNYE project serves its intended purpose of supporting vulnerable groups. “The ACC will ensure that you benefit from this project as long as you have been chosen and no one will stop that,” he said.
The director said the PSSNYE project has various components, which are geared towards alleviating poverty and unemployment among the aged, persons living with disabilities, young people and women in big towns and extremely poor communities. He encouraged beneficiaries to report any irregularities and assured them of the Commission’s dedication to addressing grievances fairly and efficiently.
Senior Public Education Officer attached to the ACC Southern Region Office, Abdulai Saccoh, admonished the beneficiaries to make proper use of the funds paid to them under the project.
Public Education Officer, Bernard Abass Kargbo, told the beneficiaries the means of reporting to the ACC, including the use of the Commission’s toll-free lines of 077-985985, 077-986986 or 8515.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the project and ACC’s involvement to instill integrity in the project. Some community leaders called on the World Bank and the government to extend the project to cover more vulnerable people in their communities.
The sensitization campaign is part of the ACC’s broader efforts to promote good governance and accountability in social protection programs.
