The Deputy Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Augustine Foday Ngobie, seizes every opportunity to motivate staff of the Commission to continue to display unflinching devotion to the noble fight against corruption in the country. Therefore, on October 9, 2023, the insightful second-in-command of the anti-graft agency held discussions the Commission’s Northern Regional Office in Makeni to get a firsthand update on its performance and challenges.
In the brief but interactive session, he conveyed hearty greetings from the Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala who is currently pursuing a course at Harvard University and the respective Directorates based at the Commission’s Headquarters in Freetown. He urged everyone at the meeting to remain committed to working hard at all times, reaffirming the Commission’s uncompromising stance on dereliction of duty and mediocrity.
The Deputy Commissioner, under whose supervision the Commission’s Regional Offices operate, thanked the Manager of the Northern Regional Office, Mariama Navo, and her team assuring them of his continuous support to ensure quality performance in prosecuting corruption.
He further noted that in spite of challenges, the general performance of the Commission has not ebbed because of the effective structures upon which the Commission thrives. He encouraged the Manager to continue to work harder and keep his office abreast of the work of the Northern Regional Office regularly.
In regard Finance, the Deputy ACC Czar disclosed that efforts are in place to explore all possible avenues to get funds in order to facilitate the work of the Commission. He added that the Finance Department of the Commission would shortly defend the Commission’s proposed budget at the Ministry of Finance. Approved, the proposed budget, according to Mr. Ngobie, will enable the Commission capacitate its regional offices in light with staff increase, among other things.
Afterward, the Units of the Northern Regional Office updated the Deputy Commissioner with activities they had carried out and those pending, and pledged to remain devoted to their respective duties. This recommitment was re-echoed when Manager Navo informed him of the great esprit de corps displayed by her Team despite challenges.
She further revealed
that she was well pleased with the devotion of her colleagues particularly when
she had been on leave, promising to maximise that level of team spirit for
greater results in the fight against corruption within the region
