Mandu Chiefdom Speaker says PNB campaign boosts public confidence in war against corruption

The Chiefdom Speaker of Mandu Chiefdom in the Kailahun District has described the Pay No Bribe (PNB) campaign as a very important tool for members of the public to report incidences of bribery and corruption encountered while accessing public services.

Chief Abubakarr B. Kamara was speaking at a sensitization meeting organised by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for chiefdom residents at the Mobai Court Barry on Thursday 18th October 2018.

The PNB platform was unveiled two years ago with the aim of combating bribery in the water, electricity, judiciary, police, education and health sectors.

Chief Kamara said that at the start of the campaign, there were reservations about the campaign due to its non-prosecutorial nature.

The Chiefdom Speaker said that realising the gains of the campaign by way of the tangible actions undertaken by MDAs to curb incidences of bribery, they now have the impression that the campaign will continue to help improve service delivery in the targeted sectors.

Key among the gains made by the PNB are the development of service delivery charters by the health, police, energy and water sectors, robust monitoring of the free health care programme, enhance quality education services, ban on Saturday classes and extra charges, and administrative actions -by way of dismissals and demotions against defaulting staff.

The Chiefdom Speaker called on residents of the chiefdom to support the PNB campaign in order not to reverse the gains made.

The Chiefdom Youth Leader, Albert Coomber thanked the ACC for its robust fight against corruption, noting that the fight seems more serious now than ever before.

He urged the Commission to continue to fight graft with the seriousness that it deserves by going after all those engaged in acts of corruption irrespective of their status or affiliation.

He pledged their commitment to help in the popularization of the PNB and its 515 free phone line on all networks.

The meeting was followed by a mass sensitization at the market square in Mobia and Baima communities that attracted hundreds of onlookers.
