MINISTRY OF JUSTICE, FOURAH BAY COLLEGE PRESENTS REPORT TO THE ACC

NEWS ITEM

By: Alex A. Bah, Communications Officer, ACC

The Ministry of Justice, of the Fourah Bay Colllege (FBC) Students' Union Government (SUG) has, on Thursday 16th February 2023, presented its Report on the campaign against corruption and the Establishment of the Justice Desk, on Campus, to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at its 3 Gloucester Street Headquarter Office, in Freetown.

Receiving the Report on behalf of the ACC Commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., the Director of Public Education and External Outreach Department, Patrick Sandi commended the erstwhile Attorney General and Minister of Justice for what he described as a unique step by her administration to embrace accountability.

He furthered that handing over is usually a challenge with public officers which is why it is quite laudable at their level as students and emerging leaders to present to the ACC a Report, on the Justice Desk at FBC.

Director Sandi encouraged them to remain focused and undaunted in preaching about integrity, adding that fighting corruption was a very serious challenge as corruption fights back in diverse ways. “It takes a lot of courage, fortitude, strength to fight against corruption, more so in a society that people see corruption as a way of life”, he averred. Whilst assuring them of the Commission's unfettered support, he urged them to play their own part, noting that there will always be cynics that will make frantic attempts to discourage and undermine their efforts.

Presenting the Report, Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Emma Hamilton thanked the Commission for its support towards the establishment of the Justice Desk and ensuring that students have a means to channel their many concerns, complaints and challenges on issues relating to bribery, abuse of position, and other forms of academic malpractices within the College.

It could be recalled that through partnership and collaboration between the ACC and the FBC-SUG through its Justice Ministry, a Justice Desk and Campaign Against Corruption on Campus was launched in February, 2022.

The short event which was climaxed by the presentation of the Report, was witnessed by the newly appointed Minister of Justice, Fourah Bay College Students' Union Government, James Sanu.
