The Director of Public Education and External Outreach Department at the Anti-Corruption Commission, Sierra Leone (ACC-SL) Patrick Sandi has, in a community town hall meeting in Wanjeila, Nyawa Chiefdom, Kenema District, stated that the beneficiaries of the Productive Social Safety Net (PSSNYE) project should have trust and confidence in the ACC, as it would ensure that the project is implemented transparently, fairly, with integrity and without fear or favor.
This assurance he gave on 20th October, 2023, to the people of Wanjeila Town who had gathered to listen to anti-corruption messages relating to the project.
Mr. Sandi furthered that the Commission through its Grievance Mechanism (GRM) Redress Component of the project has instituted measures whereby beneficiaries who are dissatisfied would report to the ACC as prompt actions will be taken and feedback provided to the complainant(s).
Director Sandi also informed the people that the PSSNYE project is an approved Forty ($40) Million Dollars project by the World Bank comprising, Cash Transfers and Provision of Economic Inclusion Support, Productive Labor Intensive Public Works and Life Skills Support for Youth, Employment and Entrepreneurship Support for Youth, Systems Development and Coordination, GRM and Citizens engagement and Contingency Emergency Component.
Underscoring the role of ACC in the project, Michael Sesay, Head of Public Education Unit, ACC, said the ACC was empowering communities on the PSSNYE so that they understand what the project entails. He assured listeners of ACC’s stance to stem the tide of corruption in the implementation and bring to book anyone found wanting. Mr. Sesay encouraged the people of Nyawa Chiefdom to take the project seriously in order not to lose this life-changing opportunity in the future.
ACC’s Public Education Officer, Christiana F. Jusu dilated on the community people's role noting that, they are to utilize the funds judiciously in the bid to meet the expectations of the ACC, National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), National Youth Commission (NAYCOM) and the Donors.
She urged them to treat the PSSNYE project as they did with the Social Safety Net (SSN), which we speak of today as a success story.
In his presentation, Kenema District Monitor, ACC, Mukeh Evans Foday-Musa, stressed the ACC's robustness at all times, emphasizing that the people must not entertain any stakeholder who would want to undermine the project.
Earlier, whilst welcoming the ACC to the Chiefdom, Town Chief Wainjela, Mannah Brima stated that, the people are pleased with the work of the Commission, and will report any incidences that would amount to corruption or malfeasance in the project.
Chief Brima pledged support and assured the ACC of his people acting honestly and sincerely to ensuring the successful implementation of the project.
