ANTI - CORRUPTION COMMISSION CATHEDRAL HOUSE 3 GLOUCESTER STREET FREETOWN SIERRA LEONE, WEST AFRICA 1 st February , 2019 PRESS RELEASE AC C INDICTS INFORMATION MINISTRY OFFIC IALS ON VARIOUS CORRUPTION OFFENCES The A nti - Corruption Commission has indicted MR EDWARD KING, ACTING DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION, and SORIEBA KAMARA, SENIOR ACCOUNTANT, in the MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION (MIC), for Misappropriation of Public Funds and Public Revenue, contrary to section 36(1); failure to comply with applicable procedures and guidelines relating to the management of public funds , contrary to Section 48(2)b; and failure to pa y tax payable to a publ ic body, contrary to Section 48(1)d respectively of the Anti - Corruption Act 2008. Following the MIC’s decision to undertake a nationwide sensitization campaign on the Commission of Inquiry , the A cting D ire ctor of I nformation of the MIC , MR KING , accordingl y requested and received the sum of Le 206, 000, 000/00(Two Hundred and Six Million Leones) on 28 th December, 2018, for the said purpose. After cas h ing the said sum, MR KING became unavailable until alarm was raised by officials of the Ministry. The investi gations also discovered that between 28 th December 2018 and 20 th January 2019, SORIEBA KAMARA, the SENIOR ACCOUNTANT , who prepared the cheque in the name of EDWARD KING , later received from MR KING the sum of LE 115, 500, 000/00 (ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN MIL LION, FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND LEONES).MR KAMARA then dis bursed and applied part of the said amount for purpo ses o ther than what it was meant for and could not account for the rest . Both men will appear in the High Court of Sierra Leone, Holden in Freetown, on 5 th February 2019 . In this regard, the Commission wi shes to advis e all public officers who are in control of public resources to comply with laid down laws and procedures in the handling and disbursement of same . Public Officers are further advi sed to desis t from applying public resources for private purposes and gains . The Commission sh all prosecute anyone found wanting .
