ANTI - CORRUPTION COMMISSION CATHEDRAL HOUSE 3 GLOUCESTER STREET FREETOWN SIERRA LEONE, WEST AFRICA 6 th November, 2018 PRESS RELEASE SIERRA LEONE SCORES 71 PER CENT IN ‘CONTROL OF CORRUPT ION’ IN MCC SCORECARD The Anti - Corruption Commission (ACC) wishes to inform the general public that Sierra Leone has passed the ‘Control of Corruption’ Indicator in the Millennium Challen ge Corporation (MCC) Scorecard, scoring 71 per cent , 22 points upward s, moving from 49 percent last year. This is the country’s highest score in the ‘Control of Corruption’ Indicator since the introduction of the MCC Scorecard in 2004. The MCC is an initiative of the Government of the United States of America to provid e aid to developing countries to fight widespread poverty through economic growth. The MCC Scorecard c onsists of 20 I ndicators under three broad categories : “ Economic Freedom, ” “ Ruling J ustly , ” and “ Investing in People. ” The ‘ Control of Corruption ’ Indica tor falls under the “ Ruling Justly ” Category. Commenting on the scorecard, the Deputy Commissioner of ACC, Shollay Davies, said: “ This is a strong indicator that the fight against corruption in the country is bearing fruits.
